The United States of America’s president Donald Trump and his vice-president Mike Pence have come under fire as parents of trans children in the United States have vowed to protect their children from these two “bullies” by fighting like hell.
This uprising comes after the Department of Health, and Human Services (HHS) memo was leaked and published in the New York Times on the 21st of October. The notice proposed to effectively erase trans people by switching the definition of “sex” back to strictly female and male on the basis of “immutable biological traits identifiable by or before birth.”
The letter reads: “We write to express our outrage and deep concern over the Trump-Pence Administration’s proposal to legally define sex as either male or female, unchangeable and based on unscientifically narrow criteria. “This is the latest cruel attempt in a long line of attacks to diminish the existence and humanity of our children and to dismantle their basic human and civil rights. We want to make this very clear—when our children are under attack, we will fight like hell to protect them.”
Transgender campaigners took on a protest in front of the white house, in Washington DC, and also in other cities like LA following the leak of this trans-phobic memo.
The Human Rights Campaign published a letter in which they proceeded to point out the rise in reported violence against the transgender community, primarily black and other coloured Transgender people, rebuking both President Donald Trump and VP Mike Pence for sowing the seed of “fear and hate against our children and transgender people across our country.”
The parents of transgender children from all the 50 states of the US signed the document published by the Campaign group.
“We fear every day that our kids will encounter bullies, but never did we imagine that the most threatening bullies would be in the White House,” the letter continues.
It adds that: “These children—all children—deserve to be treated with respect, love and acceptance. Our children cannot be reduced to a deeply flawed, debunked understanding of what makes us the people we are. Our children know who they are, and we know what they need.”
The parents who signed the publication went on to make a vow to vote against President Trump in the United States Mid-Term elections coming up on the 6th of November.
The publication stated that: “We will vote to secure a nation in which our children can live fully, freely, to their greatest potential. We will vote to save lives—the lives of our children, all transgender and non-binary people, and all vulnerable communities in our nation who your Administration views as secondary and disposable. Your White House may hold power now, but our children hold the power of our future. This November, we are voting to protect that future, and together, we will make your hateful agenda a thing of the past.”
