Low Testosterone

Around age 20, a man’s testosterone levels reach their highest point. Each succeeding year is met by a 1% decline in testosterone levels. In the United States alone, at least 10 million men suffer from low testosterone.

Men with lower than normal testosterone levels may experience a number of symptoms, some of which have the potential to have an effect on quality of life.

Effects on a Man’s Libido

Low testosterone may contribute to a reduced libido, affecting a man’s sex life. In some cases, low levels of testosterone may even cause erectile dysfunction.

Erectile dysfunction causes a man to be incapable of having or of unable to maintain an erection. A low sex drive, in combination with ED, can lead to insecurities. This, in turn, may cause a reduction in a man’s quality of life and quality of relationships.

Less Muscle Mass

A surprising effect of low testosterone is loss of muscle mass and bone mineral density. Low bone mineral density leads men to become more susceptible to osteoporosis. Fortunately, clinical trials have proven that testosterone replacements may be able to restore muscle strength.

According to David Ferguson, Ph.D from the University of Minnesota’s College of Pharmacy, “Testosterone is a steroidal hormone that causes fairly rapid increases in lean muscle mass and strength.”

Loss of Sleep

Studies conducted by the University of Montreal have discovered a link between low testosterone levels and quality of sleep. Men, over the age of 50, with low testosterone levels experience less “deep sleep” than men with higher levels of testosterone. Less sleep can lead to poor work performance and even depression.

Overall Health

According to Chicago Weight Loss Clinic, low testosterone has been linked to a reduced libido, ED, loss in muscle mass, and sleep deprivation, low testosterone levels have also been linked to a number of health issues, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, and coronary artery disease (heart disease).

Men with low testosterone levels are also more susceptible to being overweight and tired. Being unhappy with one’s physical appearance and current state of health can contribute to a lower quality of life.

Symptoms of Low Testosterone

If you or someone you know is experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may be suffering from low testosterone levels:

  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Low sex drive
  • ED
  • Lack of sleep
  • Weakness

Fortunately, there is hope for men suffering from low testosterone levels. There are testosterone replacements that can help increase the levels in the body, leading to a higher quality of life.
