Jenifer Lopez is one celebrity who is multi-talented, and she does very well in all her endeavours. In the trailer of her latest upcoming comedy titled “second act” J. Lo plays the role of a clerk in a grocery store. Her boss in the comedy tries to make her feel less than she is by mentioning that J.Lo couldn’t get another job because of her stature and age. The actress’s response to her boss was a confident “Watch Me”.
Well, this comedy has some links to what J.Lo’s real life is about. One minute you think she’ll suck at acting or dancing, and the next minute she takes you by surprise by delivering a fantastic act. In Jenifer’s three decades in Hollywood as a singer, dancer, and actress, there is almost nothing she hasn’t accomplished. Jenifer Lopez started as a Bronx theatre kid who had lots of dreams and wishes, and somehow she managed to become an internationally recognised figure. Typical story of ” started from the bottom now we’re here”.
Jenifer’s contribution to the entertainment industry has not gone unnoticed as she bags two Grammy nominations, a mind-blowing number of Billboard Music Award nominations, three American Music Awards, and also becoming this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award honoree.
However, Jenifer Lopez, Just like some other singers, did not plan to focus on solely music. The songstress started her career as a member of The Fly Girls, an early ’90s dance troupe of a comedy show titled “In living colours”. Jenifer Lopez has always had a love for the cameras, and with the influence, she had from the all the movie musicals she watched growing up, she just had to work her way to the big screen.
Jenifer Lopez explained in an interview with James Lipton that “I watched a lot of musicals because of my mom and that influenced me very much in the fact that a career in this business would have to be all three”.
The singer took on acting and starred in movies like Jack and Money train. J. Lo worked so hard that at the age of 27 she was already a Golden Globe nominee.  Having to do three things at the same time (Singing, Dancing, and Acting) was supposed to be stressful, and one would expect that one of her three careers would suffer because of the excess workload. Well, J.Lo once again proved the world wrong. Her debut studio album “on the 6” climbed up to the top 10 on the Billboard top 200. And in 1999 the album was certified triple platinum in the US.
J.Lo, in an interview with people, said “I always thought I could do both and there was no switch (from acting to singing) For me I was going to continue doing movies while I made this album. It was always part of my plan.”
Two years after the release of her album “on the 6”, she released a second album titled J.Lo and also did a movie titled the wedding planner. She was success personified that year as her new album ranked number one in the United States of America, and her film was sitting with pride on the top spot of the box office, making her the first person in the entertainment industry having two projects ranking tops respectively.
Benny Medina shared in an interview around the time J.Lo’s first album was released “She’s someone I think in the classic sense that is the embodiment of the triple threat—the actor-dancer-singer”.
Jenifer’s love for hard work and her can-do spirit led her to hustle harder and to take on entrepreneurship. She started a lifestyle brand that was pocket-friendly so that people who couldn’t afford expensive things but wanted to dress well, could afford to shop from her. The clothes, perfumes, and other accessories she had in her brand were geared at making life more comfortable and classy for her fans.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, J.Lo said I’m a workaholic, my instinct is to fill every single minute of my life with work, so I’ve had to learn balance. When you take on too much, that can be the enemy of great.”
Jenifer Lopez has been very calculative and knew when to push back and reinvent herself whenever any part of her career was suffering, and that made her stand out from other stars who had to juggle two or three careers. When asked how she manages to cope with the ups and downs she has faced over the years, Jenifer Lopez had this to say; “I’ve been in the grind and the game for a long time. At a certain point, people respect you when they see you fall and get back up. The more you’re in this life, the more they celebrate your triumphs.”
In the late 2000s, the singer wasn’t getting as many positive reactions as she wanted from her works but she didn’t let that weigh her down. Jenifer Lopez joined the American Idol and as a judge and stared a reality talent hunt competition at the same time. Once again she became relevant as people tuned in to watch her on American Idol and followed her reality talent competition.
Talking during her Docu-concert called “dance again” When she was asked about how she felt after joining the American Idol as a judge just when she was losing popularity, the singer said while crying “It turned out to be an essential thing in my life. It gave me the strength to do the things that I couldn’t do before because it did put me in a powerful position for myself, People do like me. People do want to see me.”
Sure the mother of two won’t be hiding from the screens anytime soon as she went into producing a drama series titled “shades of blue” which she also starred in, side by side another reality dance show called “world of dance” equally starring her, and also the most successful Las Vagas residency of the year 2016. With all these three programs running almost at the same time and with the way she handled them to become successful, Lopez has become the undisputed most relevant and successful multi-hyphenate in Hollywood.
There is always a motivating force behind every successful person and the 40 something years old mother on two has identified her driving force.
“People underestimate me. They always have, and maybe that’s for the best, It’s fun to prove them wrong,” she said. Adding that  “I didn’t get kissed into this business, I’m from the Bronx. I had to find my way, so I’ve always felt like I had to prove myself. Maybe that’s a good drive to have. I never settle for mediocre.”
In an interview with The Independent, Jenifer Lopez talked about her approach to life and work. Lopez said, “It’s always been my approach to performing, to work, to everything I do in life: I give it all I have.”
Jenifer has been a role model for many upcoming singers, dancers, and actors. Knowing how much people look up to her, she has never hesitated to drop words of encouragement and advice for her fans.
She said one time “If I tell you all the people that told me I wasn’t going to act, sing or dance or I wasn’t good at it, or I should stop, or I should quit. The truth is nobody knows what’s inside of you. Only you know what you can accomplish and what you’re capable of” For the next generation of multi-hyphenates, It appears that Jenifer’s footprints are just the perfect ones to walk on if success is the goal.
